Southampton City Council: Improving recycling

Southampton City Council needed to improve the quality and quantity of recycling it collected from houses and flats as residents were putting the wrong items in their recycling bins.

By engaging with the community, there has been a reduction in contamination levels of 4 per cent and CO2 emissions by 1,345 tonnes. Savings of £115,400 have also been made on waste disposal and textile recycling has increased by 2.81 per cent.
