Responding to the new £500 million Multiply Fund announced in the Spending Review to help support adults improve their numeracy skills, Cllr Kevin Bentley, Chair of the Local Government Association’s People and Places Board said:
“It is good that the Government have committed to extra support for adults with no or low numeracy skills the opportunity to improve their employment prospects via the creation of the new Multiply Fund. Councils and combined authorities know their communities best and are uniquely placed to bring together partners to help deliver this funding including through adult and community learning centres.
“However, it is disappointing that important and long promised UK Shared Prosperity funding is being pre-allocated to nationally determined schemes. The UKSPF should be a localised, place based fund which ensures there are investments for people, communities and places, driven by locally determined priorities.”
