Bath and North East Somerset Council has a good track record of inviting and getting people in for NHS Health Checks. Strong partnership work with GP practices has been key to that success. The team is now looking at how digital Health Checks could bring new opportunities to reach those least likely to take up the offer.

Around 14,000 NHS Health Checks take place in Newham each year. Newham Council commissions the borough’s GP federation to deliver them, which sub-contracts to GP practices. Along with some neighbouring boroughs, Newham benefits from excellent data through a partnership with the Clinical Effectiveness Group based at Queen Mary University of London.

Care technology when considered as part of a holistic support offer means it can be used effectively to support people’s independence and positively impact on their lives.

In January 2022, the uptake rate of the Healthy Start scheme in Hounslow was 49 per cent After implementing a series of awareness raising and educational interventions, the uptake was 57% in January 2023. Following another year of more targeted promotion of the scheme, the uptake was 71 per cent in 2024.

Blackpool Council has an integrated alcohol, drugs and sexual health support service for all residents known as Horizon and delivered by a partnership of different organisations.

A digital pathway for PrEP has been developed  in Brighton and Hove to allow people to manage their PrEP digitally, reducing the number of appointments they need to attend A community clinic has also been set up and has had great success in engaging seldom-seen groups

Liverpool’s sexual health service provider Axess has improved access by setting up a PrEP Express service from its three sexual health clinics.

32 London boroughs started collaborating on HIV prevention marketing campaigns 10 years ago when the Do It London brand was launched by the London HIV Prevention Programme.

Councils in the south west started looking at ways of increasing equity of access of PrEP in other groups to address this in late 2021.
