The Local Government Association ('the association') is a national representative body that promotes democratic and effective local government in the service and support of local communities. As such, it seeks to maintain the highest standards of conduct and integrity. It is equally important that elected members of the association, through their individual conduct, maintain such standards.
The LGA does not have its own code of conduct, but elected members serving on the association's member structure, or representing the association on other bodies, are subject to the member code of conduct of their own local authority. These codes are in turn based on the statutory model code of member conduct, introduced by the Local Government Act 2000, and overseen by the Standards Board for England (for English local authorities); and the Commission for Local Administration for Wales (for Welsh local authorities). A copy of the model code of conduct can be found on the Standards Board website .
