Councillor Parnaby has been an Elected Member since May 1979 and currently the Leader of the East Riding of Yorkshire Council and has been since its inception in 1996, as part of local government reorganisation.
The East Riding is one of the largest unitary authorities in the country covering nearly 1000 sq miles and a population of 335,000.
Prior to reorganisation Cllr Parnaby served on the former Beverley Borough Council, was Leader from 1991-96, and on the former Humberside County Council.
Cllr Parnaby, the longest serving Leader in Yorkshire represents the East Riding of Yorkshire Council on a variety of organisations locally, sub-regionally and nationally.
He is currently Chairman, Humber Bridge Board, Chairman, Local Government – Yorkshire & Humber (LGYH) , a member of Humber LEP, York/North Yorkshire/East Riding LEP, North Bank Partnership and Local Government Association Executive. He is also an accredited Peer for Local Government.
Awarded the OBE in the 2008 New Year's Honours List for services to Local Government.
