Culture, tourism, heritage and sport helps to create places where people want to live, work and visit

Local government funds and supports the majority of this country's culture, tourism, heritage and sport. These valued frontline services also make an important contribution to wider priorities, including economic growth, wellbeing and community cohesion.

We are helping councils through:

  • Steering the joint LGA / Department for Culture, Media and Sport Libraries Taskforce
  • Offering a culture and sport improvement programme, funded by Sport England and Arts Council England
  • Supporting the implementation of Sport England's new strategy, ensuring English destinations have a strong voice in the new national governance arrangements for tourism, and shaping the next steps for the government's Culture White Paper
  • Supporting culture, tourism, heritage and sport to make the most of wider public service reform, including devolution
