The great strength of the LGA is that it is regarded as a practical and pragmatic organisation that seeks to reach consensus between all parties on those issues that impact on local government, and it needs to retain the respect of all those involved in order to succeed and survive.

I support Cllrs Sheard and Marjoram (first 541) in their defence of the Planning Inspectorate. But there is a more fundamental issue with the planning system: at its heart is a market mechanism.
