Future ways of working

Why this is a big win

The scale of spending cuts facing local authorities will require each council to deliver services in a variety of different ways. Some councils will look to concentrate on a transformational approach, whereas others will undertake change in a more incremental manner.

The Future Ways of Working offer seeks to support councils exploring radical and innovative new ideas that grab the headlines as well as delivering practical support and guidance that promotes and seeks to replicate successful initiatives that have already delivered savings.

Support to councils:

Commissioning Academy

After a very successful launch at Local Government House the Commissioning Academy is now open for applications from councils across the country.

Future Council Programme 2012/2013

In 2012/13, we will be funding and working with a number of councils through our Future Council programme. This provides councils with seed funding and/or facilitated support to assist them in implementing innovative approaches that will generate productivity gains. We will work with councils to ensure that key successes can be replicated across the sector.

Shared services

Identifying best practice and national efficiency savings achieved through existing shared service arrangements and providing support to those councils considering moving to a shared services model.

Productivity experts

Productivity experts for councils; this programme provides a small amount of funding to councils who have innovative ideas to generate significant efficiency savings. The funding would be used to engage experts that can help to support implementation and generate savings. These experts could be private sector consultants, elected members or officers.
