Responding to Government pledges today to maintain the Barnett Formula, Cllr David Sparks, Chair of the LGA said: "If on Friday morning the UK wakes up to a ‘no' vote, and with it the continuation of the Barnett Formula, there will be an even greater need for English devolution to cities and county areas."

The LGA report, 'Our ambition for children and young people' aims to support a radical rewiring of local public services. It sets out four high level ambitions and groups 'core measures' underneath them.
Councils and schools have been forced to divert money from other budgets to ensure the Government's promise of a free school meal for all pupils aged seven and under can be delivered when the new school year begins next month.
