JOINT CIRCULAR No. 114 - POLICE STAFF COUNCIL HANDBOOK: PART 3 GUIDANCE ON POLICE STAFF MISCONDUCT PROCEDURES

The Police Staff Council has reached an agreement to publish PSC Handbook Part 3 revised guidance on police staff misconduct procedures.

The guidance has its origins in the Taylor Review of police disciplinary arrangements and the recommendation in the resulting Taylor Report that it would be desirable, where possible, for the disciplinary procedures for police officers and police staff to be compatible in order to drive consistency

nationally.

The Police Staff Council considers it important that police officers and police staff receive equal treatment when subject of an investigation into an allegation of misconduct.

The enclosed document provides guidance that enables forces to consider linking elements of the new police officer misconduct regulations to each forces’ misconduct procedure for police staff.

Yours faithfully,

Ben Priestley, Trade Union Side Secretary

David Algie, Employers’ Side Secretariat
