Responding to the announcement of the new High Streets Cultural Programme, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Chair of the Local Government Association’s Culture, Tourism and Sport Board, said: “This funding is positive and will help to support the revitalisation of our high streets as part of our national recovery from COVID-19.

“The culture sector contributed £32.3 billion to the economy before the pandemic. Investment in heritage and culture plays a vital role in supporting thriving places: levelling up economies, attracting visitors, developing workforce skills and fostering community cohesion.

“This is an exciting programme that will celebrate the role and importance of high streets in our towns and encourage residents to love where they live.”
