Licensing authorities play a key role in shaping the places and public spaces in which their residents live. To do this they need to listen to what their residents want.

Recent and future changes to the licensing regime, such as the introduction of new rules for lap-dancing clubs and new powers for elected Councillors, working with local partners, to tackle alcohol related disorder, have started to redress the previous democratic deficit in the licensing regime.  The LG Group want to see these improvements go further.

Plenary sessions will hear from leading politicians on their future vision for the licensing regime, and from Purple Flag winning councils on how licensing powers help elected members shape the places that their residents want them to represent.  Workshops and detailed case studies will explore exactly how your authority can get the best from recent and future changes to licensing guidance and regulations, such as the introduction of the mandatory code on alcohol licensing, as well as how you can help the LG Group lobby for a localist licensing policy.
