LGA briefing: House of Lords Second Reading

Key messages

The Bill makes an exemption for members and office holders in Government from its provisions. For the avoidance of doubt, the LGA proposes extending this exemption to explicitly cover local government elected members.

Furthermore, an unintended consequence of the legislation may be that part two of the Bill, which covers controlled expenditure, could potentially capture the LGA's work. In light of this, we are seeking clarification in Parliament on the future advocacy role of organisations such as the LGA.
