Productivity Programme: Better for less

The Local Productivity Programme is the LGA's response to the current budgetary challenges. It supports councils in generating further improvements in productivity to get the very best value for money and outcomes for local communities.

The Open Public Services White Paper brings greater clarity to the Government's aspirations to make services more customer-centric. It tasks councils with holding together potentially more fragmented services and with a greater number of providers. Efficiency alone will not deliver these savings and more radical solutions need to be explored.

The Local Productivity Programme 'Better for less' is our response to these challenges.

Our productivity programme is helping councils improve productivity and deliver better for less by:

  • supporting them to improve productivity
  • bring them together to share innovation and learn from each other
  • engaging central government and partner organisations in a debate about longer-term, more radical options, to improve productivity
