Adopting a blended learning approach, the NGDP offers a range of activities for graduates which are designed around three key themes:
Introduction and Skills Building
Content includes management and leadership of people, management and leadership of change, workforce planning, working in a political environment, inclusive leadership and enhancing personal effectiveness.
Strategic Management
Content includes building knowledge, skills and understanding in local government and public services, equality, diversity and inclusion, personal skills including effective communication, project management and financial management.
Strategic Leadership
Content includes management and leadership of people, management and leadership of change, workforce planning, working in a political environment, inclusive leadership and enhancing personal effectiveness.
The NGDP learning and development programme is delivered through a combination of in-person and virtual learning, including:
- virtual live and pre-recorded learning
- regional/group days
- full day whole cohort residential events
- action learning sets
- group workshops and coaching
- individual tutorials.
The aim of the NGDP learning and development is to fast-track your career as a public sector leader. CMI Level 7 is a postgraduate-level qualification usually offered to senior managers and greatly respected within the public sector. The objectives of the qualification are to:
- enable participants to critically evaluate the challenges facing local government
- provide participants with high level capabilities in management and leadership, grounded in a public sector context
- provide participants with a strong understanding of key local government areas of work and management
- enhance personal effectiveness as a leader and manager
- increase self-awareness and awareness of others.
