LG Challenge: Testimonials 2016

Amy Newnham

HR Organisational Development Officer, East Sussex County Council

The LG Challenge has been the most significant development programme I have ever experienced! It was the most exhausting – I'm not going to lie – but also the most deeply exhilarating, rewarding and fulfilling experience I've had at work and has had such a positive impact on my life.

As a result of the LG Challenge, I now feel so much more confident in who I am and what I have to offer at work. I've had exposure to so many different fields and areas of local government and I've made some wonderful friends as well as a network of people I can call on for support in the future.

If you're curious about what the LG Challenge can do for you, I say, go for it! It is such an amazing programme and provides an opportunity you won't find elsewhere for development and growth.

Liz Rice

Communications Officer, Mole Valley District Council

The LG Challenge was for me an intensive, fun-packed and sometimes excruciating learning experience.

I enjoyed every moment of working within our teams as we took on challenges as varied as saving millions of pounds in adult social care to creating and marketing a new tourist destination on the coast.

My personal experiences and learning during the challenges have changed the way I approach problems both in and out of work and given me a new perspective on how to get the best out of others.

I highly recommended the challenge to anyone who would like to develop themselves professionally in a supported environment. Be prepared for lots of hard work, you'll be so glad you got involved!

Heather Storey

Category Manager for Education and Inclusion, Croydon Council

The LG Challenge was stimulating, exciting and above all challenging! It is easily the most useful CPD I have had in my career and has increased my visibility in my home council as well as more widely. I learnt an incredible amount throughout the process including a strong emphasis on presentation skills which will serve me well throughout my career.

Aside from all of that I met a brilliant group of new peers, many of whom I am still in touch with and expect to stay in contact on our journeys onwards and upwards.

Yunus Mayat

Enterprise Architecture and Information Services Manager, Bradford Council

One of the best experiences I have had, taking on real life challenges that local authorities across the country are facing. Being able to look at them from different view points and provide solutions to help make the life of the citizens we serve that little better, beats any training course by miles.

Kate Henderson

Strategic Housing Manager, South Ribble Borough Council

What can I say about the LG Challenge?  It was the most productive, enriching and enjoyable experiences I have undertaken. Whilst most development opportunities take place within the confines of a classroom, LG Challenge puts you at the heart of the action, in councils across the country.

You will be faced with real life strategic challenges, and given the opportunity to work with equally talented and motivated local authority officers to come up with unique, ground-breaking and inventive solutions within a 24 hour period. You will be able to use your existing skills and apply them to service areas you may not have worked in before, as well as developing new skills.

The LG Challenge is a must for any local authority officer who is keen to push themselves by developing the necessary skills to ensure they continue to develop the highest standard of services and initiatives for their local authority and the residents they serve.
