The LGA produces a weekly parliamentary bulletin to keep you up to date with the progress of bills, Select Committee inquiries and other parliamentary matters of interest to local government.
The cross-party LGA regularly responds to parliamentary inquiries and briefs parliamentarians of all political affiliations on issues of concern and relevance to local government. The most recent of these briefings and inquiry responses can be found here.
Our programme boards develop, steer and oversee all policy and improvement activity of the LGA , through extensive engagement with councils.
LGA Smith Square debates are about just that – debate! They take place at Local Government House, at the heart of Westminster, and at the heart of policy and political discussion.
The LGA anticipates EU initiatives that may impact on councils, and works with the full range of partners in Whitehall and Brussels to ensure the best possible legislative outcomes for local government and the communities they serve.

The Independent Local Government campaign is intended to encourage debate on the merits of formalising the relationship between central and local government. The LGA wants to bring together people in different sectors of local government to take part in this debate. The campaign was launched in Parliament on 9th February.
