Benchmarking in LG Inform Where councils have agreed to it, identifiable data has been made available in LG Inform covering some of the metrics found in the Workforce Survey along with data from the Local Government Earnings Survey.

This report outlines the twentieth set of results in a series of regular Local Government Association (LGA) public polls on resident satisfaction with local councils, conducted every four months.

Addressing violence is not a single agency issue, as it is the culmination of many different issues. It is only by pursuing a strategic, coordinated approach involving a range of agencies, including partnerships between statutory and voluntary organisations, that violent crime can be effectively addressed.

Councils only want the best for the children and young people in their communities, but many children struggle to cope with the challenges they experience. Facing continuous family violence and without recourse to adequate help when they need it, we know that some young people go on to be involved in the youth justice system.

This strategy builds on councils’ achievements under the National Procurement Strategy for Local Government in England 2014 – the first strategy developed by and for English councils.

Every child deserves a good school place, but that isn’t currently available to everyone. Government rules ban councils and council-maintained schools from helping academies and free schools improve. But given their excellent track record in maintaining high educational standards and in turning around failing schools, councils need to be recognised as effective education improvement partners, ready and able to support schools of all types.

This toolkit has been developed to support delivery of the National Procurement Strategy for Local Government in England 2018.

Councillors and officers are indispensable to one another and mutual respect and communication between both is essential for good local government. Together, they bring the critical skills, experience and knowledge required to manage an effective council.

This paper is the very start of our campaign ahead of the Spending Review. We have published a series of papers, commissioned by LGA boards, which start the new thinking around building the case for long term, sustained investment in local government as well as laying out the positive outcomes this would deliver for the country.

Working with local partners, Worcestershire County Council has developed a smart, mobile-responsive, information-sharing ‘professionals portal’ that builds an accurate multiagency picture of children and their families and supports the county’s Family Front Door initiative, which provides a single referral pathway for accessing council and partner support services.
