To influence the Government's decisions on successor arrangements to the Work Programme and Work Choice, which expire in 2017, the LGA put forward a proposal for a devolved employment support to the DWP and the Treasury in November 2015.

Using a case worker approach to provide locally integrated employment, health and skills interventions, it would apply flexibly across England, with the potential of supporting up to one million of the most disadvantaged jobseekers, including Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) work ready claimants.
