Community safety research

Councils are on the frontline when it comes to crime and disorder, and safer communities. As well as representing communities on issues such as licensing, crime and disorder, anti-social behaviour and community safety, councils are also responsible for delivering high standard services such as public protection, health and safety and regulatory services.

Metal theft survey 2012

The LGA has carried out research into the levels of metal theft experienced by councils between April 2009 and early 2012. The research also covered costs incurred by councils, whether thefts had resulted in claims against authorities, legal and preventative action taken by authorities and councils' opinions on how to tackle the problem.

Police and crime commissioners survey

The LGA has set out an offer for prospective police and crime commissioners. This report gives the results of a survey of police and crime commissioner candidates, which was conducted in order to better understand their priorities and backgrounds as part of the LGA's work and research in this area.

Street fundraising survey

A recent survey of councils has shown that most councils have received complaints about street fundraisers (also known as ‘chuggers'); however councils do value the contribution that street fundraising provides for raising funds for charities.

Changes in reported crime during the recession – crime levels 2007/08 – 2009/10

This research by LGA Analysis and Research examines changes in the incidence of crime at the local authority level since the beginning of the recession. It also provides some information on the latest crime figures at local authority level for 2009/10.
