This resource provides support and practical information to councils in order to improve working practices and provide support for social workers across the UK. The resource provides short and long-term solutions to everyday difficulties that may be faced by councils, as well as examples of best practice within the profession and guidance from peers in the profession.

In recent years, a challenging recruitment market and negative press coverage has led to a national shortage of experienced social workers. In response to this, council's are collaborating regionally on qualified social workers.

 


The standards for employers of social workers

These are Standards, which set out the shared core expectations of employers which will enable Social Workers in all employment settings to work effectively. Employers can use the Standards along with an appropriate supervision framework to help drive recruitment and retention.

Social work benchmark role profiles

The LGA worked with the Trade Unions to prepare a detailed report including a full set of benchmark role profiles with indicative job evaluation scores. This resource will help employers to design local career frameworks.
