Police and Crime Commissioners' Bulletin 23 July 2012

Dear colleagues,

Many of you will know that the LGA provides the secretariat to the Police Staff Council (PSC) Employers. Last week, following lengthy discussions, we made an offer to the trade unions on pay for 2011/12 and 2012/13. The trade unions will recommend the offer to their branches for acceptance and have now gone out to consultation. We expect to receive the outcome of this consultation in early August.

We look forward to welcoming PCC representatives on to the PSC Employers in November but in the meantime if you would like to know more about our work on this you can contact the LGA team on:

 police-staff@local.gov.uk

You may have seen the government's recent announcement to change the current criminal justice system into a service where police, prosecution and courts work more effectively together. I am pleased that the government has acknowledged the role of PCCs in the process and are considering ways PCCs might play a wider role in criminal justice reform. More details can be found in the White Paper:

Swift and Sure Justice: the Government's Plans for Reform of the Criminal Justice System

I hope you are as enthusiastic about the Olympic and Paralympic Games as I am, wherever you are in the UK. However with just four days left, security continues to be a high profile issue in the media. I am pleased that we have put together a special briefing for you on the Olympic and Paralympic Games and the implications it has on police forces.

I hope that you find this edition of the bulletin useful, and please do continue to feed back your comments to me.

Yours faithfully,
