Using the hashtag #OurDay, the 'Tweetathon' demonstrated the enormous amount of hard work and dedication which goes into serving local communities.
The LGA would like to offer sincere thanks to all chief executives, officers and members who took part in yesterday's #OurDay ‘Tweetathon'. There were more than 10,000 tweets from thousands of individuals and local authority accounts, which reached over 750,000 people. It helped to raise awareness of the many council services, giving an insight into a day in the life of local government. Tweets ranged from gardening and recycling tips, to photos of library events and drain inspections, to tweets from full council meetings, information on school catering and updates on police incidents.
The ‘Tweetathon' coincided with social media week and the launch of the LGA's new Social Media-Friendly Mark, which councils can adopt to demonstrate their commitment to allowing the use of social media during meetings.
