Health, engagement and the 'Big Society'

Health is not something that can be done to someone. Communities need to be involved in health improvement initiatives for those initiatives to stand any chance of success.

In March 2010, the Conservative Party published plans to establish a ‘Big Society' in which ‘people come together to solve problems and improve life for themselves and their communities; a society in which the leading force for progress is social responsibility, not state control'.

This section contains information and publications that should help authorities and their partners work with their communities to promote involvement in health.
