Key to delivering a successful modern library service is a sector-led approach to improvement, supported by the Local Government Association (LGA). The LGA and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council (now disbanded) ran the Future Libraries Programme (FLP) which worked with 36 councils helping them develop their library services.
Its successor, the Libraries Development Initiative (LDI), run by the LGA and Arts Council England (ACE), will help 13 projects by councils and other organisations to improve their library services.
This new publication aims to share the learning from a series of successful LGA events for portfolio holders, and showcases the creativity and commitment of councils to achieving this.
