Criminal Justice and Courts Bill, Second Reading House of Commons

24 February 2014

Key Messages

  • The Local Government Association (LGA) welcomes the Criminal Justice and Courts Bill's provisions designed to speed up the system with the establishment of a specialist planning court for major applications.
  • The LGA supports provisions in the Bill to entitle 17 year olds to an appropriate adult if they are given a youth caution or youth conditional caution. However, this reform has resource implications for local authorities and, therefore, needs to be properly funded as a New Burden
