A few words from the LGA chairman on the Olympics

After travelling around the country for more than 70 days, passing through some 1,000 local communities, the Olympic Torch today travels through Kensington and Chelsea, where LGA Chairman Sir Merrick Cockell will greet it in Holland Park.

Here, Sir Merrick highlights the great work councils across the country have done to include as many residents as possible in the once-in-a-generation spectacle, and discusses his own experiences as a councillor trying to make the most of the Olympics and Paralympics.

Sir Merrick will also be tweeting as the Torch Relay passes through Kensington and Chelsea as well as the Opening Ceremony. You can follow him on Twitter @Sir_MRC and join the conversation by using #LGAolympics
