Government publishes social care funding formula

Following significant work by the LGA and other organisations over the last year, on Wednesday, the Government announced a package of new funding for adult social care, worth £2 billion over three years.

On Thursday, the Government published allocations of this funding to individual local authorities; it also published an explanatory note of its approach.

90 per cent of the new funding is being allocated using the improved Better Care Fund method and 10 per cent using the relative needs formula for adult social care.  Our analysis indicates that the Government has used its chosen methodology consistently for all local authorities.

We will be circulating a technical explanatory note to our member authorities shortly which will set out answers to most frequently asked questions.
