Policing and crime statements and media releases

Our national press office will help to build and enhance the reputation of police and crime commissioners (PCCs) nationally, generating positive stories and rebutting negative ones in the national media.

We provide a daily news headline service for members and we will work closely with police forces to provide case studies to illustrate positive stories and liaise with them to counter negative coverage. The Media team will use its network of contacts in the national, regional and trade press to ensure that PCCs have a voice on the important issues of the day, to win over public opinion and to influence decision makers.

We provide a 24-hour, 365-days-a-year enquiry service for the media and advice to our member organisations. The team issues press releases, statements and promotes range of stories to explain our views and policies. Our weekly media round-up is an exclusive member benefit which summarises coverage in national, regional, trade and online publications.

Our External Communications team is responsible for corporate engagement with our audiences. They manage the social media channels and the consolidated e-bulletin system ensuring that information is sent out to the right people in the most appropriate format.

We produce a free fortnightly ‘first' magazine which will regularly profile the work of PCCs. Packed with news and articles by councillors and other experts, the magazine has the widest circulation and readership of any local government magazine.

'firstonline' is the online version of the LGA's membership magazine 'first'. It carries some stories up to two days before they are published in the magazine, and has a new blogs section featuring opinion and comment from across local government.
