The Local Government Association (LGA) led work commissioned by Government to develop this sector-led guidance on fire safety in purpose-built blocks of flats, which was written by experts in the field of fire safety and was published in July 2011. This was after landlords voiced a number of concerns about how best they can deliver an appropriate level of fire safety in purpose-built blocks of flats.
LGA has worked alongside local authorities, private sector landlords and management agents, housing and environmental health professionals and fire and rescue services to produce this guidance.
Following the Lakanal House fire inquest, the Coroner has produced a number of recommendations to which government will respond shortly. We will be working with government and other partners to consider the implications of the recommendations for this guidance.
