On 4 July 2017, the Members of the General Assembly passed a resolution to create a new incorporated Local Government Association, set up as an unlimited company, to replace our current unincorporated Association.
The new arrangements will make us more financially sustainable, allowing us to invest more in services to support our membership whilst keeping subscriptions low.
The new company formally comes into operation from 1 April 2018. New Articles of Association were adopted by the first General Meeting of the interim members on 7 March 2018 and can be found here. Supporting Governance Framework can be found here.
Member councils have now been invited to sign up to the new LGA company so that we can complete the transition. In the meantime, councils’ 2018/19 subscription gives membership of both the current and the new LGA until the General Assembly takes the formal decision in July 2018 to disband the current unincorporated Association.
