“We are pleased to see the Government has recommitted to this investment and the principles of equal access to sport."

Responding to the Government's announcement of new standards for equal access to sports, Cllr Gerald Vernon-Jackson, Chair of the LGA’s Culture, Tourism and Sport Board, said:
“We are pleased to see the Government has recommitted to this investment and the principles of equal access to sport.
“However, there is still further to go in making sure young people are given fair access to activities both within schools and in non-school settings, and we need to enable greater join up between schools and council facilities and pitches.
“The LGA and councils stand ready to work with all partners to help achieve this. It is vital that we invest in public facilities, serving the whole population, including children during the school holidays, which are facing a cliff edge moment for survival.”
