The Local Government Association is a cross-party organisation with Labour now being the largest Group.

Following the local elections held on Thursday 4 May 2023, a Local Government Association spokesperson said:

“The Local Government Association is a cross-party organisation with Labour now being the largest Group.

“The LGA Labour Group has now completed its election process and has confirmed that Cllr Shaun Davies is their nominee to become the next Chair of the organisation. Cllr Davies will be officially elected at our General Assembly meeting on 4 July just before the beginning of our Annual Conference.”

1) The LGA’s new political balance is:

  • Labour 38.65 per cent
  • Conservative 33.75 per cent
  • Liberal Democrat 14.96 per cent
  • Independent/Other 12.64 per cent
  • Total 100.00 percent

2) Cllr Shaun Davies is Leader of Telford and Wrekin Council and is currently the Senior Vice Chair of the LGA.

3) Cllr James Jamieson is the current LGA Chairman and will remain in post until our General Assembly in July.
