Responding to the launch of a study commissioned by the Government to research the long-term health effects of vaping on young people’s health and well-being, Cllr David Fothergill, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, said:

“It is good that government has launched this important study.

“Councils have long raised concerns over young people vaping and are pleased the Government set out measures to restrict the availability and marketing of vapes to children.

“The evidence suggests that vaping is by no means risk-free, so it is right that we investigate the effects of vaping on young people’s health.

“It is concerning that almost one in ten secondary school students regularly or occasionally vape – and the longer-term impacts of which are still unclear.”
