Cllr Izzi Seccombe, Chairman of the Local Government Association’s Community Wellbeing Board, responds to today’s announcement by NHS England on plans to reduce long stays in hospital.

"This report is further compelling evidence of the irrefutable crisis in adult social care funding which cannot be ignored."

Extra funding would help councils build on the effective prevention work to tackle loneliness which has saved millions of pounds and cut emergency hospital stays.

"More needs to be done to make adult social care a rewarding and fulfilling career and it is right that the workforce is going to be one of the pillars of the forthcoming green paper on care and support for older people."
