Apprenticeships and COVID-19: information for councils

Guidance, links and resources from the LGA, as well as the latest official Government information relevant to local government on apprenticeships and COVID-19.

LGA and the Education and Skills Funding Agency

In April 2020 the LGA recorded a webinar with colleagues from the Education and Skills Funding Agency providing an update to the sector and addressing many of the key questions arising from the disruption caused by the pandemic. Watch the webinar.

Latest Government guidance

The Government has a dedicated page on its website providing the latest guidance on apprenticeships and COVID-19. This page gets refreshed with every update to the guidance- the latest version is v5, updated on 2 June 2020.

Institute for Apprenticeships and Technical Education (IfATE)

The IfATE has its own dedicated page on apprenticeships and COVID-19. This includes:

  • FAQs
  • advice for apprenticeships
  • signposting to potential financial support where this is available.

The IfATE also has a regularly updated page of the apprenticeship standards that have been given temporary discretions or flexibilities.

Knowledge hub

As part of our apprenticeships support offer for councils, we run an Apprenticeships group for local authorities on the Knowledge Hub website. In this group we have a dedicated thread providing all the latest updates on COVID-19 and apprenticeships. We have also developed an FAQ document, which we are trying to update as new information becomes available. Please note: you must be logged in to the KHUB and a member of the group for either of these links to work.
