Banbury Heights Nursing Home: Recruiting overseas for social care providers in England

Banbury Heights Nursing Home has been recruiting overseas nurses since 2003. We spoke to Charles Taylor from Banbury Heights about his experience of overseas recruitment. In 2021 recruitment expanded to include senior carers and since then Banbury Heights have sponsored 18 senior carers over three sites. With 150 employees this represents 12 per cent of the workforce.

Barnsley Council: Collaborative working with the voluntary and community sector to improve individual experiences at the end of life

In Barnsley, South Yorkshire, a Macmillan Social Worker is employed by Barnsley Council to sit within the multidisciplinary team of clinical nurse specialists, occupational therapists and dieticians to provide expert support for people in need of complex palliative care and support at end of life. Barnsley Metropolitan Borough Council: Developing an attempted suicide follow-up service

The Psychosocial Engagement Team service was developed as a six-month pilot project, where referrals were made by A&E mental health liaison teams into a six to eight week programme focused on problem-solving and support. In six months, 100 referrals were made, with 85 per cent engagement. The pilot has been evaluated and embedded into the mental health pathway. This case study was done jointly with the National Suicide Prevention Alliance and forms part of our suicide prevention resource.

Basildon Advice Store

The Basildon Advice Store opened in 2019 and is run by Basildon Council. Residents may walk in and use it to access employment-related skills from a range of local providers.

Bath and North East Somerset Council: Digital Transformation - supporting hospital discharge through a shared referral management system, a partnership between acute care and community services

A digital solution designed to assist a two-way conversation between hospital staff and patients to assist discharge. A simple online referral form helps patients put in place the support they need as they prepare to go home from hospital.  The form focuses on eight areas of need, with priority given to discharge dependent services delivered by third sector partners.  A dashboard view enables ward staff to keep up to date with the progress of referrals and third sector partners are able to work together to deliver a more co-ordinated approach to care.
