Derby and Derbyshire faced significant challenges due to persistent high obesity rates in children. The solution involved formulating a childhood obesity strategy with two main objectives.

West Sussex County Council works with a range of providers to deliver the NHS Health Check programme across the county. This includes offering checks in community settings such as libraries, village halls, workplaces and high-street hubs, as well as in clinical settings.

Norfolk County Council have turned their NHS Health Check programme performance around, going from one of the lowest-ranked councils in the East of England region, in terms of percentage of the eligible population receiving a Health Check, to one of the best in England.

Hounslow uses a population health management framework to target public health services at people who would most benefit from them. A health outreach team travels around the borough engaging with residents about their health and delivering NHS Health Checks in the heart of local communities.

Leicester City Council has a good track record of delivering NHS Health Checks. The public health team take every opportunity to publicise them to local communities. They are currently exploring how digital technology could complement the existing offer.

Bath and North East Somerset Council has a good track record of inviting and getting people in for NHS Health Checks. Strong partnership work with GP practices has been key to that success. The team is now looking at how digital Health Checks could bring new opportunities to reach those least likely to take up the offer.

Around 14,000 NHS Health Checks take place in Newham each year. Newham Council commissions the borough’s GP federation to deliver them, which sub-contracts to GP practices. Along with some neighbouring boroughs, Newham benefits from excellent data through a partnership with the Clinical Effectiveness Group based at Queen Mary University of London.
