Case studies

This case study forms part of Shaping Places for Healthier Lives, a grant programme funding five council-led partnerships across England to build places that support good health for all. The programme is funded by the Health Foundation, delivered in partnership with the Local Government Association, and supported in delivery and learning by the Design Council and Cordis Bright/PPL. 

Following a non-statutory review, Nottingham City Council has embarked on significant improvement and transformation plans, with the appointment of an improvement and assurance board, but Director of Adult Health and Social Care Sara Storey still wanted to be part of the CQC pilot.

As part of our work with the Early Years sector and the Food Environment through the Childhood Obesity Trailblazer programme (COTP) we decided to consult with providers (childminders, day care, after school clubs) to establish levels of knowledge, awareness, confidence and skills regarding food and nutrition. Our aim was to set a baseline from responses to help us measure progress and success against our overall project objectives. We also wanted to identify the needs of the Early Years sector and any further support required in relation to the food environment, adopting a whole systems approach.

Working groups bringing together all the different parts of the sexual health service are being set up in Nottinghamshire to enable closer cooperation. A year in, the project has already led to women being given easier access to LARC. This case study forms part of our sexual health resource.

Nottinghamshire County Council is part of Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care System (ICS) and South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw ICS. Discussions are taking place as to how the HWB and the ICS boards will work together, and on the configuration of integrated care partnerships within the ICSs. This case study forms part of our integrated care systems (ICS) resource.

Families with young children in Nottinghamshire are being supported with the cost of living through a network of FOOD Clubs which provide more affordable access to healthy ingredients.

Oldham has invested in capacity to implement a wide-range of in-depth health and wellbeing initiatives which operate across the council, with Oldham clinical commissioning group (CCG) and with other local partners.

Oldham council is working closely with communities leaders and key partners to address vaccine hesitancy amongst its ethnic minority population.

This project explored the development of online care accounts for service users and carers, enabling them to complete tasks such as updating demographic information or downloading care plans.
