EMP circular 4 - police staff pay 2021

Dear colleague

I am writing to update you on the Police Staff Council’s pay negotiations on the Trade Union Side’s pay and conditions claim for 2021.

The Trade Union Side (UNISON, UNITE and GMB) undertook a consultative ballot of their members on the Employers’ Side offer. Their members have voted to reject this and have indicated that they would be prepared to undertake industrial action to seek to improve the offer.

The results were as follows:

UNISON: 96 per cent of members voted to reject

UNITE: 97 per cent of members voted to reject

GMB: 95 per cent of members voted to reject

We understand that the Trade Union Side will now be holding further discussions around industrial action options. An industrial action ballot would be needed prior to members being called out on strike, or to undertake any other form of industrial action.

The Employers’ Side has reaffirmed its position and offer which is a £250 consolidated increase to all police staff on pay points 7-18 from 1 September 2021.

We will keep you informed of any developments.

Yours sincerely

David Algie
