The Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse has published a recommendation for the Local Government Association to draft a code of practice for councils responding to civil claims of child sexual abuse. We have accepted this recommendation and will update on our progress here.
To date, we have held a roundtable discussion obtaining the views and experiences of several member councils and started a draft with the ambition of engaging with other stakeholders as part of the development process. The original anticipated date for completion was July 2020, however with councils still focussed on the immediate response to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, we have delayed further work until at least Spring 2021 to ensure that we can engage fully with practitioners and stakeholders in the process. This timeframe has had to be put back in response to the coronavirus pandemic. We welcome views of those with experience in this area to inform the draft – these should be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org. We will give a new expected completion date as soon as we are able.
