Responding to a report by the Association of Chief Trading Standards Officers which shows for the first time the value delivered by local councils’ trading standards services, Cllr Simon Blackburn, Chair of the Local Government Association’s Safer and Stronger Communities Board, said:

“This report shows that councils’ trading standards teams work hard to protect the public from doorstep and online scams, rogue traders and loan sharks, and the huge impact this work has.

“The next government needs to ensure councils are adequately funded, so they can continue to take effective action at a local level against criminals and provide the vital local regulatory services that keep residents safe.”
