Local government needs leaders who reflect and represent their local communities, as the best ideas are generated by a diverse set of people from different walks of life.

Innovation and public service delivery require direction by those who can understand the issues first hand. Managing and leading on services which impact on a diverse range of residents can be challenging. We therefore call on people from all backgrounds to apply for the LG Challenge.

The programme celebrates the mix of capabilities and expertise that a diverse group of contestants can bring to the challenge and the wider sector. The long-term aim is to have a local government workforce which is representative of diversity in wider society at all levels and that everybody, regardless of background, should have equal opportunity to take on leadership positions.

We ask that contestants with disabilities who would benefit from adjustments contact our team as soon as they have been notified of their successful application so that we can adjust and support in the best way.
