Improving adult safeguarding

We are working with ADASS to develop and deliver a support offer to help councils and their partners embed the Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) approach.

MSP is a sector led initiative designed to develop an outcomes focus and person led approach to safeguarding work, and a range of responses to support people to improve or resolve their circumstances. It is about engaging with people about the outcomes they want and establishing whether and how those outcomes were realised.

With our partners, we are promoting this approach, sharing good practice and a series of useful tools to support MSP, measure effectiveness and improve safeguarding practice.

Making safeguarding personal provides access to all the reports, tools and resources resulting from the MSP approach

Safeguarding list of resources: a consolidated list of key safeguarding resources for council, care provider and wider partners' staff.

MCA including DoLs: a list of key resources for councils and their partners on implementing the Mental Capacity Act including the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards

Top tips: financial abuse and scams: a resource for local leaders on recognising and responding to the signs of financial abuse

Making Safeguarding Personal (MSP) Outcomes Framework and Final Report
Both the Making Safeguarding Personal Outcomes Project Final Report, which describes the work done between November 2017 and April 2018, and the Outcomes Framework are now available, and will be used to drive the next phase of this work during 2018/19. If you would like to get involved in the implementation and development of the next phase of the MSP outcomes framework, please contact Pritpal Rayat (pritpal.rayat@nhs.net), who is working with ADASS and the LGA on this project.
