In October 2021 the LGA conducted a survey of the climate change officers of all councils in England. The purposes of the survey were to assess what actions local authorities are taking to combat climate change, to assess their future needs for support in this area, and to evaluate the climate change sector support offer provided by the LGA.

Councils in England are taking innovative steps to tackle climate change, including declaring climate emergencies, developing action plans and rolling out demonstrator projects. This report explores the governance arrangements in five case study countries, to understand how they structure and govern their response to climate change. The report draws out key insights and recommendations for England.

This discussion paper examines developments we can expect; how innovative councils are getting involved in trials and the issues that all councils will need to address in the future.

In February 2019, the Local Government Association (LGA) invited all lead members for children’s services in England to complete a short survey about the current pressures facing children’s social care in their local areas.

This research was commissioned by the Local Government Association in December 2019 in response to a growing concern that more and more children were missing out on their entitlement to a formal full-time education.

This report by the Children and Young People’s Mental Health Coalition considers the policy landscape in England in relation to children and young people’s mental health over the last decade, and reviews progress relating to implementation and impact. The report is informed by a rapid review of policy which was carried out between January and March 2023. These findings reflect the view of the Coalition, not the LGA.
