Local government action to tackle childhood obesity

This document contains seven case studies of positive initiatives in local authorities around the country.

Giving children a healthy start in life is one of the most important jobs councils do and we all have a duty to make sure that children, along with their mums and dads, have access to the services they need.

Case studies and practical information.

The purpose of this research is to understand the lessons learnt by those councils that have undertaken large-scale structural change of children’s services, and to identify the key building blocks that ensure high quality services for children, young people and families in this context.

This report details an analysis by the LGA Research and Information team to try to explain why some councils spend more on children’s services per young person than others.

Findings of the evaluation, undertaken by Shared Intelligence, of the Children’s Services SLI Programme delivered by the LGA.

The Children in Trouble programme is a joint project supported by LGA and the Howard League for Penal Reform and sets out to encourage, develop and showcase different approaches to reducing the use of custodial sentences. This report documents the programme's achievements and challenges following an evaluation by the National Foundation for Educational Research (NFER).
