This project was developed to create a national picture regarding safeguarding adults’ activity during the COVID-19 pandemic. It was considered important to understand what happened to learn any lessons for future COVID-19 outbreaks and respond to changing safeguarding needs. It is hoped the data collected could improve understanding of the impact of COVID-19 locally and nationally to help inform preparations and future planning.

This guidance has been developed to assist elected councillors as councils grapple with the worst public health crisis we have experienced in a century.

In terms of the approach to recovery, it absolutely remains the case that councils will play the leading role in this work in their areas.

Within the context of the Health and Social Care Act 2012 (‘the Act') a number of key players have come together to provide effective leadership and support for the successful implementation of local Healthwatch as a consumer champion.

An executive summary of the guidance on dementia friendly communities for councils has also been produced by the LGA and Innovations in Dementia:

Learning from supporting seven health and care systems

The Quality Assurance Framework sets out the approach that Herefordshire Council takes to ensuring local care and support services provide what individual residents need. It is a set of processes with one goal – to deliver high quality care and support services to the citizens of Herefordshire. This forms part of our adult social care markets and commissioning resource.

The Local Government Association (LGA) and Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) commissioned the Institute of Public Care at Oxford Brookes University to work with councils in capturing examples of social care digital innovation across local government in a new report.
