Return to Work - ICT

One of four programmes designed by the LGA and Government Equalities Office to help councils with recruitment to increase diversity across their workforce and to support professionals to return to work after a career break.

The LGA and Government Equalities Office collaborated in 2020/21 to deliver Return to Work – ICT. It helped people with prior knowledge, experience, and skills in ICT to return to work following a career break and gave councils a chance to fill vacancies.

The free programme supported councils with existing recruitment campaigns and provided an opportunity to diversify the workforce across local government.

Candidates enrolled on the programme benefitted from free training from the Society for Innovation, Technology and Modernisation (Socitm).

The distribution of candidates seeking roles within ICT included a third focused on roles as project managers; nearly 1 in 5 within IT technical support and 1 in 7 interested in data analyst roles.
