We support councils in helping the children, young people and families in their areas achieve the best possible outcomes.
Our priorities and focus for the year are:
Nine authorities have now been selected to take part in the action learning research on the council role in education which is being jointly funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and the Local Government Association (LGA).
The LGA previously called for the ending of the annual Ofsted children services assessments. Following our lobbying success, the Government are now consulting on their proposal to end these assessments.
This project uses five case studies to illustrate how councils across the country have used statutory funding alongside private, voluntary and community sector funding to provide services to young people. The case studies give an insight into what is possible and may act as a guide for others wishing to replicate some of the initiatives in the report.
This report is intended for use by local authorities as they implement the 2012 Admissions Code.
Local authorities are now one year away from their new Raising the Participation Age (RPA) duty. DfE organised an event in London on 7 February to focus on how we can all contribute to achieving full participation of young people in education or training.
