Reshaping financial support: how local authorities can help to support low income households in financial difficulty

Despite the funding constraints that councils face, they remain committed to providing help and support for households in financial difficulty as part of their wider place-shaping ambitions. Many have detailed their specific approaches to helping households within their anti-poverty and financial inclusion strategies.

The LGA is working with six core councils as part of our Reshaping Financial Support Action Learning Programme. There will be opportunities and events for other councils to contribute and participate to the programme throughout the year.

This study has looked at how 10 councils have been reviewing their approaches so that they can better target their resources on those in greatest need, as well as deliver more holistic responses to support people to become more financially resilient in the longer term.
